Riis Neighborhood Settlement House in Long Island City, Queens and Edward Byrne PAL (Police Athletic League) Center in Jamaica, Queens. If you have not heard, we are here to share that Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is on it’s way! GYSD is from April 25-27, 2008, Children for Children (CFC) is New York’s lead agency for Global Youth Service Day for the third consecutive year. CFC engages thousands of young people from across New York State and [...] We are well-versed in our research and prepared to present on topics that include: bachata, diabetes, single fathers, social implications of Degrassi High and more! This is the first time our clubs will be able to go on to District-level competitions (Thanks to Lucinda!) so we’re giving it our best! Judges please be prepared for some difficult [...] Each year we get together with our friends and family and share our upcoming events. This year, we celebrated with close to fifty family members and we found ways to include the parents in the CITY project. So, stay tuned for our International Night which will be hosted by parents. Cornell’s urban youth program recognized nationally Provided The First Ever Affordable Fashion Show, held in November at the Boys and Girls Republic in lower Manhattan, highlighted how young people are manipulated by the media, advertising and designer labels to spend more than necessary on clothes and shoes. It was one of programs that garnered extension’s [...] Dr. Bill Miller and his students at Cornell University had a surplus of daffodil bulbs and so we accepted the challenge to create a unique statement with the bulbs! So, we planted our secret message that will blossom in the spring. Stay tuned we may even win for most unique design. Holiday Greetings! In the new year, we will reveal our new members of the 4-H cabinet! The teen leaders at Henry Street put together a media/consumer literacy campaign. They were interested in sharing the results of their media literacy survey, how to select affordable clothing, and where to invest your money within your community.
