Cornell University Cooperative Extension - Broome County provides answers to your gardening and insect questions through the following programs:

These services are described below.

Horticulture Response Line - (607) 772-8958

The Horticulture Response Line is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. from April 15 until October 15.

From October 16 through April 14, the Horticulture Response Line is open 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursdays only.

During these times a Master Gardener, Master Gardener Intern, or a trained Response Line volunteer will answer your horticulture and pest control questions as accurately as possible utilizing Cornell University Recommendations. If unable to answer your question, it will be referred to the Horticulture Educator who will make every effort to contact you at a convenient time.

Diagnostic Services
Offered through Cornell University Cooperative Extension - Broome County

Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Broome County offers a diagnostic service to the consumer to identify insects and plant diseases and offer environmentally responsible options for control.

For a fee of $10.00 the Horticulture Educator and other qualified Extension Staff will provide identification and control options for insects and plant diseases. It is important to understand that the Horticulture Educator is not a Plant Pathologist or an Entomologist and will be unable to diagnose everything. If it is not felt that an accurate diagnosis can be given, a full refund will be made and you will have the option to have your specimen sent to Cornell University for analysis.

Cornell University Insect Diagnostic Laboratory

If necessary, plant and insect samples may also be sent to Cornell University for
diagnostic services. The fee for this service is $25.00. The samples can be brought to
the Cornell University Cooperative Extension - Broome County office or can be sent
directly to Cornell University.

Specialized Water, Soil and Plant Tissue Testing Services

Testing of soil and water for heavy metals, plant tissue testing and irrigation water testing
