New York is an agricultural state that produces a wide variety of foods. Some are available year-round; others are available during certain seasons. Menus and recipes can be adjusted to take better advantage of foods that are seasonally available.

Seasonal Guides for New York Foods

Many fresh New York fruits and vegetables are seasonally available. To find out what is available in different seasons, see Cornell's Northeast Regional Food Guide and/or New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets' Harvest Calendar.

After identifying when particular local products are available, food service directors may decide to plan menus and develop recipes to take advantage of them. Directors can also ask regular produce suppliers to provide New York grown foods as seasonally available.
